Book a floating sauna just for the two of you beside the Opera House, with a ladder straight down into the cold, clear fjord.
Sized for Two

Oslo’s harbor has several floating saunas, and the tiniest are perfect for a couple. Reserve one privately and for sixty minutes it’s all yours: an empty changing room, nobody waiting to climb down into the water, only the pair of you, the warmth and the sea. It’s a few minutes on foot from the center, past the angled white planes of the Opera House and out along the pier, where the cabins rock softly and the cries of gulls and the putter of boats take over from the city’s noise.
Why Book It Privately

Sharing a public session is pleasant enough, but you’re bound to strangers’ chatter and schedules. Reserving a small cabin for yourselves does away with that: the temperature is whatever suits you both, you can climb down into the fjord the moment you feel like it, and the hour moves at the tempo you set. That counts for far more with two people than with a crowd, and the smallest cabins were designed for exactly this, a single room with one bench and one ladder, made for couples from the start. It never feels too big, and never feels shared.
You can pick your time for the light instead of the public hours, late afternoon as the sun sinks behind the Opera House, or evening, when the harbor empties and the water takes on the color of the sky.
The hard part is not finding a beautiful place. It is finding the right one for you.

The cabin is compact and cozy, heating quickly, its window looking across the water to the Opera House. Warmth builds gently rather than hitting hard, and the one bench is just wide enough for you to sit side by side. When you’ve had enough heat, the steps down into the sea are right outside, fixed to the jetty. Whatever the month the fjord is icy, bitingly so in winter, but you climb in side by side and the jolt quickly gives way to a sharp, bright calm. Heading back into the heat becomes a little ceremony of its own, repeated round after round.
Between plunges, a slim platform by the door lets you stand and gaze out, boats slipping by, the Opera House glowing as night comes on, the city’s bustle far away. Expect an hour, time for three or four cycles of hot and cold, with towels and somewhere to change included.
