It’s not difficult to see the correlation or the reasons why but a new study has proven that taking time off work can actually lengthen your life.
The study, which has run for a whopping 40 years, has shown that those who take less than three weeks off a year are a third more likely to die young. That’s a pretty incredible stat, right?
We always knew that there was a lot of joy to be had from setting your Out Of Office – after all that’s why we named our company. But for this study to show what it has just reinforces that message.
The study, by Professor Timo Strandberg of the University of Helsinki, has also shown that despite previous research, a healthy diet and regular exercise were no substitute for time off when it came to relieving stress.
“Don’t think having an otherwise healthy lifestyle will compensate for working too hard and not taking holidays,” said Professor Strandberg.
“Vacations can be a good way to relieve stress.”
The study began in the 1970s and involved over 1,000 middle-aged men born between 1919 and 1934 who were deemed to be at risk of heart disease – due to things such as high blood pressure, smoking or being overweight.
Those who took less than three weeks off each year – and therefore didnt set their out of office as regularly – were 37% more likely to die young over the next 30 years.
So there you have it! Proof that answers the question: Does setting your out of office help you live longer? Yes!
