Luxury Gay Honeymoons in The Maldives vacations

Gay Honeymoons in The Maldives

Planning a gay honeymoon in the Maldives can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. The Maldives is an archipelago comprised of around 1,200 islands, roughly 200 are inhabited. It is one of the world's most renowned luxury resort destinations. Many of the islands are so small they can only host one property and as there is no major industry in the Maldives, the sea is crystal clear.

We recommend

Staying in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives surrounded by tropical paradise is a bucket list experience for many. It’s also an unbeatable setting for a honeymoon.

As the Maldives is governed under sharia law, homosexuality is illegal there. But more and more gay travelers are visiting the Maldives. This may seem baffling. Are gay travelers safe in the Maldives? The answer is quite simple: the normal rules don’t apply in the resorts as they are privately owned. Alcohol is also banned under sharia law, but it flows freely in the Maldives' many luxury resorts. To accommodate the tourists who prop up the local economy, western decadence is warmly embraced.

We recognize that some people will still feel uncomfortable traveling to a place where being gay is illegal. In that instance, we'd recommend you look at a honeymoon in Bora Bora.

If the Maldives is for you then we know the best properties for gay and lesbian travellers - the ones which will still offer you honeymoon benefits or allow a symbolic wedding on a crystal white beach. The Out Of Office Maldives Collection is our curated collection that is there to help inspire you on choosing a hotel.

LGBT Honeymoons in The Maldives

The Maldives is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations. Staying on a Robinson Crusoe island with all the luxuries you can dream of is ideal for romance. You can enjoy a candlelit dinner on the beach, indulge in world-class spa treatments and drink champagne on the terrace of your private overwater bungalow. It’s a place to experience total relaxation. The Maldives is known as a fly-and-flop destination.

Going on vacation – not to mention a honeymoon! – can be stressful. You get preemptive FOMO guilt. You feel the need to see as many ancient ruins and museums as possible. Perhaps you find yourself somewhat at odds with your partner. Must we really visit yet another art gallery, dear?

The Maldives frees you from all of this stress for a very simple reason: there isn’t really all that much to do. You can add a scuba diving excursion in between trips to the spa and the beach, but your honeymoon in the Maldives will be centred around relaxation, great food and perfect weather.

Things To Do In The Maldives

Around half of the inhabited islands of the Maldives are home to resorts. These resorts emerged over the last forty years. Prior to that, the Maldives was far-flung archipelago in the Indian Ocean, little known to the outside world.

There isn’t really all that much to do in the Maldives, as we’ve already established. In recent years, the Maldives’ luxury resorts have upped their game considerably. Competition has spurred innovation – not least the iconic underwater restaurants. The most famous of these is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Rangali. You can even opt for underwater spa treatments.

Another great option is a dhoni sunset cruise – keep an eye out for dolphins. You can also spend a day island hopping. We can even arrange honeymoon extras for your island hopping excursion, such as a candlelit dinner overlooking a lagoon.
