The new up and coming Caribbean island
Often Puerto Rico is overlooked by the other more well known Caribbean islands such as Barbados and St Lucia. There is a slight misconception about Puerto Rico, that it is not as well developed and has nothing special to offer. If anything, it has even more to offer! This vibrant country can be divided into different sections, each offering a totally unique experience.
San Juan
This metropolitan area is where it's happening. With great nightlife and shopping opportunities, it is definitely worth staying a couple of nights in the modern part to get a feel for it. It is also home to the largest shopping mall in the Caribbean – Placas De Americas. Here you will find every shop you could possibly need and more! San Juan itself has its own beaches. The coastline here has a tropical Miami vibe. The beach is also home to some lovely hotels and resorts, so if you are looking for an incredible ocean view and a happening city, then it is perfect for you.
Old San Juan
Probably my favourite place I visited during my stay. You don't need to plan anything to do when visiting Old San Juan – you simply need to grab your camera and take a stroll around the cobbled streets. It is the combination of the authentic colourful buildings and the aroma of freshly ground coffee beans that makes it such an enjoyable experience – even if you don't like coffee! During your stay visit one of the local boutique cafes and try some of the world's best coffee. The Puerto Ricans pride themselves on their coffee quality so it is definitely worth a try. They are also famous for their rum, so head to a local bar and try some of the local liquor.

Rainforest
You move from the city into the wilderness. Puerto Rico is lucky enough to have it all! Take a trip to the rainforest where you can follow several path options depending on the intensity of trek you are looking for. On your trek you will encounter several stunning waterfalls. If you are brave enough, take a dip in the plunge pool which has naturally formed at the bottom! The sounds coming from the wildlife that inhabit the rainforest are truly breathtaking. One sound you will get used comes from tiny little frogs which are known as coqui.
It is the combination of the old, the new and the tropical rainforest which makes Puerto Rico a very interesting destination to visit. With all year round sunshine and warm weather, it is always a good place to visit, no matter what time of year it may be.
