Scotland is an unusually good honeymoon destination, and not just because it looks incredible.
Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2014, and the country has spent the decade since getting very good at it. The celebrants are experienced, the best hotels know what the occasion means, and you arrive somewhere that requires no explanation.
Then there’s everything else. Edinburgh for the history, the food, and the pleasure of a city that reveals itself slowly to people who aren’t rushing. Glasgow for the energy, the art, and an LGBTQ+ scene that is among the best in the UK.
The Highlands for the kind of stillness that recalibrates something in people. Skye for landscapes that stop you mid-sentence. The Hebrides, if you have the time and the sense to take them, for a quality of remoteness that is increasingly hard to find anywhere in Europe at any price
Out Of Office has been building Scotland honeymoon itineraries for over a decade. We know which estates suit two people who want complete seclusion, which Edinburgh hotels handle the arrival well, and which experiences are worth planning around. Everything is built from scratch.
Gay Honeymoons in Scotland
Why Book Your Gay Scottish Honeymoon With Out Of Office
Scotland rewards preparation, and a honeymoon rewards getting the details right. The estates and hotels that deliver at that level book up months in advance. The best Highland properties don’t advertise heavily and availability is limited, particularly for dates that carry significance.
Knowing which ones to ask for, and having the relationships to actually get them, is where the planning earns its value.
Out Of Office has been building Scottish honeymoon itineraries for over a decade. We know the properties that handle same-sex couples with the ease that comes from experience rather than policy, and we know the ones that don’t, however well they photograph.
We know which lodges work beautifully for two people who want complete seclusion, and which experiences are worth building a trip around rather than just adding on.
Every itinerary we build starts with a conversation about what you actually want from the trip. The right level of privacy. The balance between activity and doing nothing.
Whether you want cities, wilderness, or both. Scotland can deliver all of it. Our job is to make sure it delivers it for you.

Edinburgh
More than a starting point. The Old Town rewards couples who aren’t rushing, the restaurant scene has grown into something serious, and the Broughton area has been the heart of the city’s LGBTQ+ community long enough to have genuine confidence. Stay at The Balmoral for the full Edinburgh experience, or take a Georgian townhouse on an exclusive-use basis for a more intimate experience.
The Highlands
Where the trip finds its register. The best Highland estates offer something hotels can’t: no shared spaces, no other guests, a kitchen that operates around you. Gleneagles for the spa and the food. Inverlochy Castle for the feeling of having arrived somewhere that has been doing this properly for a very long time.
Isle of Skye
The landscapes are as good as advertised. The Trotternish peninsula, the Quiraing, the Cuillin mountains: each one worth the drive. Kinloch Lodge on the Sleat peninsula is the right base, with food that justifies the journey on its own.
The Hebrides
For couples with time and the sense to use it. Skye is firmly on the tourist circuit now. The Hebrides are not. A private yacht charter along the west coast, moving between anchorages only reachable by water, is one of the more quietly extraordinary things Scotland offers.

Royal Scotland: Exploring Balmoral and the Highlands
Scotland holds a uniquely cherished place in the royal heart, with the Highlands serving as the British monarchy's most beloved retreat for over 170 years. From Queen Victoria's love affair with the Scottish landscape (and allegedly her servant, John Brown) to King Charles III's deep environmental connection to the region, the royal family's Highland sanctuary has shaped both monarchy and landscape in profound ways.

The Best Luxury Experiences in the Scottish Highlands
Scotland's Highlands are famed for their rugged landscapes and royal connections, but beyond the well-trodden tourist paths lie extraordinary luxury experiences that even seasoned travelers haven't discovered. Private Island Castle Stays You Can Actually Book While everyone knows about famous Highland castles, few realize that several private island fortresses have exclusive accommodation for discerning travelers.
ReadBest Time For A Gay Honeymoon In Scotland
May through September offers the most reliable weather for a Scotland honeymoon, with long daylight hours, especially through June, when the Highlands stay light until close to eleven at night. June is generally the driest month, though Scotland’s weather remains changeable even in peak summer.
May and September sit either side of the busiest months, with similar conditions to the summer peak but noticeably thinner crowds at sites like Edinburgh Castle and Skye’s Cuillin ridge, along with better availability at the country’s smaller Highland estates.
August brings Edinburgh’s festival season, when the city is at its most alive but also its most crowded, so hotels should be booked well ahead for a honeymoon built around this period. July and August are otherwise the warmest months and suit island-hopping through the Hebrides, where calmer seas make ferry crossings more reliable.
October through April is quieter and considerably darker, with as little as seven hours of daylight in the depths of winter, but it suits a honeymoon built around castle hotels, whisky, and fireside evenings rather than one centered on scenic drives or hiking. Rates and availability are also at their best during these months.

Start planning your honeymoonStart planning→Combining Scotland With Other Destinations
Scotland’s position at the top of the UK makes it a natural pairing for a honeymoon rather than a destination that needs to stand alone.
Ireland is the most natural addition, a short flight away, and offers very similar territory in character, castle hotels, coastal drives, and a slower countryside pace, making it easy to combine without the trip feeling repetitive if the itineraries are built to complement rather than mirror each other.
England, particularly London, works well as a bookend, either opening a honeymoon with a few nights in the city before heading north, or closing one out after time in the Highlands, with a fast direct train connecting Edinburgh to London in just over four hours.
The Nordic countries, especially Norway, extend a Scotland honeymoon into a different register of landscape entirely, fjords and glaciers rather than lochs and glens, and are reachable by short direct flights from Edinburgh or Glasgow for couples who want two distinct wilderness experiences in one trip.
Combining Scotland with any of these still requires getting the internal logistics right, since the Highlands and islands already involve their own transfers and seasonal timing, which is exactly the kind of sequencing worth planning with us directly.
The best trips begin with a conversation, not a booking form.

How many days should we plan for a Scotland honeymoon?
Seven to ten days allows time to combine Edinburgh or Glasgow with the Highlands and Skye without rushing. A shorter trip of five to six days works well focused on one city and a single Highland region. Couples with more time can extend into the Hebrides for a more remote finish.
What is the best order to visit the cities and the Highlands?
Most itineraries start in Edinburgh or Glasgow, to take in the city’s history, food, and nightlife before heading north, then move through the Highlands toward Skye, so the trip builds toward its most dramatic landscapes and its quietest days last.
Is the Hebrides worth the extra time on a honeymoon?
For couples who want genuine remoteness, the Hebrides usually become the highlight of a Scotland honeymoon rather than an add-on. Ferry schedules and seasonal timing matter enough that this is a region worth planning carefully rather than adding at the last minute.
No two trips we plan are the same. Yours will be no exception.
Every itinerary starts as a blank page and is shaped around your pace, your routing and the places you actually want to see.
