Argentina’s seasons run opposite to the northern hemisphere, which shapes the best timing more than in most destinations. October through December and March through April are the strongest windows overall, when Buenos Aires is warm without the heaviest summer humidity, Mendoza sits between harvest and the coldest months, and Patagonia’s peak season has either not yet filled up or is beginning to thin out.
December through February is Argentina’s summer, and the best time to visit Patagonia specifically. Trekking routes around Fitz Roy and the glaciers are fully open, wildlife along the Peninsula Valdés coast is most active, and daylight stretches long into the evening. This is also peak season for Patagonia’s lodges, so the properties worth booking should be secured well in advance.
March and April bring the grape harvest to Mendoza, making this a particularly good stretch to combine vineyard country with a Buenos Aires stay, before or after a Patagonia leg if the itinerary allows for it.
Buenos Aires itself works comfortably for most of the year, with December through March the warmest stretch and the rest of the year mild enough for a city-focused honeymoon. June through August, Argentina’s winter, sees most Patagonian lodges close entirely, so a honeymoon built around this period suits Buenos Aires and Mendoza far more than the far south.
