Canada’s Prime Minister joins Toronto Pride Parade

Justin Trudeau shows his commitment to LGBT rights by joining the Toronto Pride Parade

In what should be seen as a lesson to politicians worldwide, Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau joined the Toronto Pride parade this weekend to show his support and solidarity for the LGBT community.

Trudeau said Toronto's annual parade was even more important this year by the shooting that killed 49 people at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando last month.

“We have to remember the importance of safe spaces and safe communities, like the Pulse was, is something to uphold,” he said.

The director of Pride Toronto, Mathieu Chantelois, was thrilled to have the Canadian Prime Minister take part.

“It is big news in Canada but big news around the world. Not only because he is probably the sexiest politician alive but also because there has never been a leader of a country to walk in a parade, at least not that we know of.”

The parade also featured the cast of the hit TV series Orange Is The New Black who were on board their own float at the parade.

Canada became the fourth country in the world, and the first country outside Europe, to legalize same-sex marriage nationwide in 2005.

Justin Trudeau's pride appearance comes after Presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton took part in the New York Pride Parade the week before.
