At a glance
Gal Oya Lodge, nestled in a remote part of Sri Lanka, is dedicated to providing a distinctive wilderness experience. It offers the chance to explore the Sri Lankan wilderness and stay in a luxury resort in one of the least visited parts of the country.
Spread out over 20 acres of private land, you’ll be staying in the jungle surrounded by great natural beauty. You can even visit the Vedda tribe, one of the last forest-dwelling communities in Sri Lanka.
Since its inception, it has been passionately committed to preserving the local wildlife. From initial designs to the final touches of roofing thatch, the lodge has continuously strived to minimize its environmental footprint. Additionally, it acknowledges the various effects, both beneficial and challenging, that its presence can have on the surrounding community.
Gal Oya Lodge is keenly aware of the interconnected nature of its environmental and community responsibilities. Their commitment to sustainability is rooted in a comprehensive approach: reducing their ecological impact, bolstering the local community, and actively participating in wildlife research and conservation efforts.
If you’d like to reconnect with the natural world, Gal Oya Lodge is a great place to start.

Whilst the legal situation for LGBTQ+ people in Sri Lanka is less than ideal, travellers to the country will find a different reality as the majority of resorts and hotels provide safe haven for foreign queer people. Whilst some discretion is advised, Sri Lanka is an incredibly popular gay travel destination.
Accommodation
The Bungalow Bedrooms are located in the forest. They have floor to ceiling windows and they open onto your own private verandah. Each one is 800 sq. ft. and fitted with a separate living room, a built in king sized bed and an alfresco bathroom.
The centrepiece of The Villa is a large open plan living room that connects the two bedrooms. Both bedrooms come with their own wraparound veranda overlooking the exquisite landscapes. Ideal for families or those seeking a more luxurious setting.
Gal Oya National Park surrounds Sri Lanka’s biggest inland body of water, Senanayake Samudraya Lake. The lake is surrounded by 25,000 hectares of forest and savannahs. You’ll see a lot of wildlife here, including swimming elephants!
